apricot :: kiwi :: blueberry :: mango :: cottage cheese

topped with sunflower seeds :: pumpkin seeds :: shelled hemp seeds

this has been my favorite snack all week. i love that i get a variety of colors & nutrients from this snack, & a little bit of fructose, for the midday energy slump, helps me power through afternoon classes.

we have become a coffee & milk free household (well, we gave up milk, i still cheat with yogurt/cottage cheese/cheese), and i am struggling without my large daily latte. green tea helps, and is a wonderful substitute, but after 3 pm any caffeine keeps me awake at night.

this snack is loaded with nutrients:

  • apricot – contains beta-carotene, potassium, iron, soluble fiber // good for skin & respiratory system, protects against cancer
  • kiwi – contains vitamin c, beta-carotene, potassium, bioflavonoids, fiber // good for the immune system, skin, digestive system
  • blueberries – vitamin c, carotenoids, antibacterial, cancer fighting phytochemicals // good for the heart, circulation, skin, protects against cancer
  • mango – contains vitamin c, beta-carotene, potassium, flavonoids & other antioxidants // good for the skin, protects against cancer, boost immune system
  • sunflower seeds – contain vitamin e, magnesium, selenium // good for the Heart, anti-inflammatory, lowers cholesterol, prevent cancer, calm nerves & muscles
  • pumpkin seeds – contains vitamin e, zinc, manganese, selenium // good for diabetes, antimicrobial, prevent cancer
  • shelled hemp seeds – contains polyunsaturated fat // good for digestion

nourish selenium

eating 2 brazil nuts a day, gives you enough selenium for the day. the quantity of selenium does vary from nut to nut, and therefore it is important to not eat to many, as it is very easy to overdose.

i prepared some happy tea for some of my friends.

both complain about insomnia.

i had previously talked about happy tea, and drinking it when we have days that just don’t seem to go the way we want them to.

the pinyin name of this formula is gan mai da zao tang. in the formulas reference books, it is categorized in the calming the spirit section. gmdztfilter

this tea can help address some insomnia issues, as a lot of insomnia issues are due to a restless spirit.

i am curious to see how they like it

nourish-vitamin c

Whenever I think of vitamin C, oranges come to mind, and that I need to increase my dosage of vitamin C when I am feeling the onset of a cold.

Vitamin C is now even a key ingredient in skin care products.

BV-OSC aka tetrahexydyl-ascorbate :: the most stable derivative of Vitamin C :: free radical scavenger :: add UV protection :: increase collagen synthesis :: brightens & lightens the skin ::

So begins the NOURISH series.

Vitamins and Minerals are the building blocks for optimum health. The reason we take supplements, is because our foods lack vital nutrients.

I am starting this series to help build my knowledge on Vitamins and Minerals. I am curious about what deficiencies and excess of them look like, as well as what foods have an abundance of them. Not all supplements are digested properly in our system, and we might think that we got all the nutrients, but the truth is that we do not.

Let’s start with Vitamin A

I will be sharing some more information regarding the uses of Vitamin A in skin care as well as sharing some juicing/smoothie recipes that incorporate Vitamin A.
